At 9:44 a.m. on Saturday, Apr. 4, a 71-year-old was killed in head-on collision near Howard City.

According to an investigation, the man driving an Alfa Romeo was travelling westbound on Edmore Road near Almy Road in Reynolds Township. His car was believed to have crossed the center line and struck an eastbound Jeep Cherokee driven by a 64-year-old woman. Both drivers were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The male driver was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The female driver was last known to be undergoing surgery.

The Michigan State Police Lakeview Post handled the scene and was assisted by the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office and Montcalm County EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
